For Karina, working as the receptionist at the Meadowview of Davenport senior living community is more than a job.
“It has been a part of my experience of building a new life in the United States,” says Karina, who moved to Davenport, Iowa from Ukraine in August 2024.
A Warm Welcome at Meadowview
Since joining Meadowview of Davenport in September 2024, the community has been there to support her in her transition to her new home.
“Starting a new life in a new country comes with many challenges, especially while still learning the language and adjusting to a new culture,” Karina says.
She has felt at home since joining the Meadowview of Davenport team.
“When I joined Meadowview, I immediately felt welcomed by the team and the residents,” she says. “Working at the front desk has been a great opportunity to meet many wonderful people every day and become part of the community here.”
Meadowview of Davenport executive director Sarah Coy says Karina has made the most of those opportunities.
“She doesn’t just greet the people as she opens the door to let them into our community; she gets to know them, their story and their intentions in the community,” Sarah says.
Living Out Cassia’s Mission
Sarah describes Karina as lovely.
“Inside, outside, all the sides, she is just lovely,” Sarah says.
She believes Karina embodies Cassia’s mission of fostering fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love.
“She sets the bar for how we all should serve,” Sarah says. “She lives out our service standards without effort because she believes in the mission and her character aligns with the Cassia values.”
Building Connections with Residents
Karina values getting to know those she is serving.
“What I enjoy the most is the people,” she says. “I interact with residents, their families, staff members and visitors every day, and each conversation is different. I like being someone who can help, answer questions or simply brighten someone’s day with a friendly greeting.”
“She sees each resident as the precious humans that they are, she sees their value and, without knowing it sometimes, she just makes them feel loved by meeting their needs,” Sarah adds.

Why Meadowview Feels Special
Meadowview isn’t just home to independent living, assisted living and memory care residents; Karina sees it as a place filled with everyday moments that matter.
“Working at the front desk also allows me to see the small moments that make this place special—when residents stop by to chat, when families visit their loved ones, or when staff support each other,” Karina says. “It makes the workplace feel warm and meaningful.”
Gratitude and New Beginnings
Karina says she is appreciative of how Meadowview of Davenport has embraced her.
“I’m grateful for the kindness and support I’ve received from the residents and my coworkers and I’m happy to be a part of this community.”
