At Meadowview of Davenport, memory care means more than support. It’s about creating a warm, welcoming senior living environment where residents feel known, valued and at home. We’ve thoughtfully designed our dedicated Legacy Court neighborhood for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of memory loss. Activities are customized based on our residents’ needs, wants and interests to foster fulfillment and life enrichment.
Morning Routines in Memory Care
Each day begins with a morning meeting: a conversation about current events, the weather, what’s for lunch and dinner, fun holidays of the day and historical events. It’s a great way to help residents feel grounded and connected, and kick off the daily routine, which can have many positive benefits.
According to the Alzheimer’s Project, daily routines can help individuals with dementia reduce stress, lower anxiety, promote comfort and support a sense of independence.
Engaging Activities for Memory Support
After exercising their brains during the morning meeting, residents get their bodies moving with physical activities like ring toss and beanbags. Residents especially enjoy the unique “golf bags” game, where everyone tries to land their beanbags on the green.
To flex their creative muscles, residents arrange fresh flowers into beautiful arrangements.
Card games require strategy and bring out a fun, competitive spirit.
“They don’t take it easy on each other either,” says Emily, Meadowview of Davenport’s activities director. “Games like King’s Corners and Crazy Eights bring out some serious skill and fun. One resident even hosts a weekly bridge group, inviting friends who are not in memory care to join in. It’s a wonderful way to stay connected.”
Fresh Senior Living Activities
The activities team is always looking for fresh ways to engage the residents, such as Tuesday Happy Hour.
“Residents enjoy music, snacks and non-alcoholic wine, beer and margaritas—or for the more modest crowd, a classic soda,” Emily says. “It’s a time to unwind, laugh and socialize. When we can, we enjoy this hour on our beautiful patio.”
Meadowview of Davenport also partnered with a local pottery studio to offer a hands-on pottery class.
“Residents painted personalized mugs with their names, and now their morning coffee feels even more special,” Emily says.
Personalized Memory Care Connections
Legacy Court team members take the time to know the residents right when they move in, starting with a detailed interview that includes family members.
“We learn about their hobbies, past careers, passions and preferences,” Emily says. “There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to dementia care. What works for one person, might not work for another, so we create experiences that feel personal and relevant.”
As a result, the neighborhood now has Bible studies following a request from a resident who moved from independent living.
People also add their own flair to karaoke and the dance parties that sometimes ensue.
“One of our residents used to be an aerobics instructor, and she still loves teaching us a few moves,” Emily says.
Resident-Led Life at Meadowview
Residents don’t just live at Legacy Court—they make it their own.
One resident is a lifelong gardener, so she leads the gardening club and takes pride in watering and weeding the planters. Many residents join her in this passion. After starting seeds in an indoor greenhouse in March, they monitored their progress, eager to plant them once the weather warmed.

“Over the following weeks, we watched them sprout and grow, and in May, we proudly planted them outside in our planters,” Emily says. “It was a warm day, and we celebrated our hard work with tall glasses of ice-cold lemonade.”
Legacy Court also welcomes assisted living and independent living residents to join the fun. One resident regularly donates his time and talent by playing guitar and singing for those living in memory care.
Dementia Care with Dignity
Team members want residents to feel good about themselves and enjoy meaningful time together, which is part of the inspiration behind “Manicure Mondays.”
“I offer nailcare for the ladies: cutting, filing and painting,” Emily says. “But, truthfully, it’s as much a social gathering as it is a beauty session.”
For Mother’s Day, a photographer captured beautiful portraits of the women of Legacy Court.
“Before the shoot, we held a glam session with makeup and hairstyling,” Emily says. “The residents got dressed up and truly shined.”
Teamwide Support in Memory Care
The entire Meadowview of Davenport team plays an active and heartfelt role in the lives of Legacy Court residents.
Sarah, the executive director, leads a “spotlight activity” every Thursday, ranging from baking cakes to karaoke to storytelling sessions on the patio.
Christine, the director of nursing, hosts “Coloring Club with Christine” every Friday morning, complete with soft music to create a calm, creative start to the residents’ day.
Taylor, the culinary director, knows how important tasty, nutritious food is for the residents. He even personally delivered a beautifully prepared meal to a new resident who was still adjusting to her new home.
Ashton, the business office manager, creates fun themed snacks, drinks and decorations for movie nights.
Keith, the director of maintenance, not only keeps everything running, but also keeps everyone laughing with his jokes as he connects with the residents.
Casey, the sales and marketing director, lends a hand during crafts, happy hours or group events.
